FAQ

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a profession focused on restoring normal human movement and function to improve the quality of your life, whether this is to help you return to work, participate in sport or simply just to be pain free.

How long will the initial assessment last?

Please allow between 45 minutes to one hour.

What to expect at your initial assessment:

We take time to listen to your condition, how your condition is affecting you, your work, home and social life.  We will ask you your expectations and goals in terms of what you want to achieve from your physiotherapy treatment.
We will then look to perform an in depth physical assessment. We will aim to accurately diagnose your presenting complaint, give you a full explanation as to the nature of your condition, explain the prognosis and what we can do to help you.
We also look to provide treatment at the initial assessment to help you start feeling better straight away (time permitting).
At the end of the session we will set you a personalised home based rehabilitation program to help you.

What will I need to wear?

For neck, upper back and upper limb complaints please wear a vest top so that the physiotherapist can observe and look at your posture, analyse the condition and the musculature around the painful area.  This will allow you to move freely without being restricted with clothing.  For lower limb and lower back complaints please wear loose fitting top and some shorts.

Will I need to bring anything with me?

We ask that you note down any medical conditions that you may be suffering with, any significant dates (specifically dates of injury or surgery) and a list of medication.
For patients who are covered with private medical insurance please bring your policy number and any authorisation number/code with you.

What to expect from follow-up treatment sessions:

Treatment sessions last approximately 30 minutes (extra time for treatment can be organised at an additional cost).
We will start off with a brief chat about how you have been since your last session, we will discuss any specific problem areas or difficulties you have encountered.  We will then efficiently perform a quick re-assessment of your movement to see if that there has been any changes to your movement since the last time you were assessed.
Here at Back2Fitness Physiotherapy we believe that you have come to us as you are struggling with managing your condition, we are manually trained therapists that can incorporate numerous treatment techniques to help improve your condition.
At the end of the session we will assess if your home based rehabilitation program is still suitable for you or can you be progressed further to perform more advanced exercises.
Here at Back2Fitness Physiotherapy we strongly believe in treating the underlying cause of your problems  and not just symptoms.  We adopt a 'hands-on' approach to treatment and use exercise therapy to help maintain improvements achieved within the treatment sessions.

What if I have Private Medical Insurance?

If you have private medical insurance please inform us when arranging your initial appointment.  In order to bill your insurer directly, we require your policy number and authorisation code before your first appointment.
If you exceed your treatment limit, you may be liable for the additional cost.
We accept and are registered with most major health insurers including Aviva, Bupa, Cigna, Simply Health, Pru Health and WPA.  We are also accredited with Nuffield Health Fusion Clinic.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

If you are a self paying client you don't need a referral from a doctor, you can simply contact us for an appointment.  If you have private medical insurance you may need a referral from your GP so please check this first.

How can I pay?

Currently we only accept cash or cheques as payment.

What if I need to cancel or re-arrange the appointment?

Should you wish to cancel or re-arrange your appointment, we ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice so that we can offer the slot to someone else.  For late cancellations or non attendance we reserve the right to charge you for the full cost of the appointment.

How quickly will I notice an Improvement?

This is a very good question and something that we often get asked, the simple answer is everyone is different and hence respond differently to treatment.  In most cases, we would expect to see symptoms eased after the first session but in other cases it may take a few sessions to notice an improvement.  It is important to note that on some occasions, you may experience some post treatment soreness or your symptoms may become temporarily aggravated following a session.  This is a normal reaction, particularly if your injury is quite new/acute.  It is nothing to be worried about but it is important to feedback to your therapist so treatment intensity can be adjusted in subsequent sessions to keep you comfortable.
